A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
Alexandra Spieldoch is an independent consultant on gender, food security and sustainable development issues, who has years of experience working with international NGOs, farmers’ organizations and women's networks globally. She was the Coordinator for Network of Women Ministers and Leaders in Agriculture (NWMLA) and Director of the Trade and Global Governance Program at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP). She has published numerous articles on food security and agriculture, trade, investment and human rights.
