A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
Jayati Ghosh is Professor of Economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Since 2002 she has been the Executive Secretary of International Development Economics Associates (IDEAS); she is also a Founding Trustee of the Economic Research Foundation. She has received the NordSud Prize for Social Sciences 2010 of the Italian Fondazione Pescarabruzzo, and was awarded the ILO Decent Work Research Prize in 2010. She has authored several books and more than one hundred scholarly articles.
