A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
In June 2010, Joanna joined ActionAid, an international NGO working in over 40 countries, and is based in ActionAid’s South Africa office. Previous to that she worked at Oxfam Canada and was executive director of the Association of Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) where she transformed it into an international, feminist membership organization. She has extensive experience of international governance and strategic links to international network as well as many years of policy research experience focused on gender and economic reforms.
