Blog Action Day has finally arrived! After months of planning and thousands of blogs written, today is that day that bloggers around the world take over the web in a global discussion about one of the defining issues of our time: inequality.
Earlier this year Oxfam revealed that just 85 individuals have the same wealth as the poorest half of humanity. Just this week we heard that the top 1% of the world now own 48.2 percent of global wealth, up from 46 percent last year. The rich are getting richer.
The statistics are mind-boggling, but the story of inequality is more than facts and figures. The gap between the rich and poor is hurting us all – damaging economic growth, fuelling violence and crime, squandering the hopes and ambitions of billions who are trapped at the bottom, and standing in the way of ending global poverty.
Today, bloggers from around the world will share their own views of inequality, and show that the world has woken up to extreme inequality. Through sharing their stories, they’ll shine a spotlight on the power imbalances that is driving inequality. They will be the start of a global movement for a fairer world.
You can check out a range of blogs submitted during the day by checking out our Storify below, or following us on Twitter where we’ll be tweeting the best blogs throughout the day. Join in and tweet/retweet links to the best blogs that you see and don’t forget to use the #BAD14 hashtag!

Thank you to all of you for taking part in Blog Action Day 2014. Today’s the day when the blogosphere speaks with one voice and says it’s time to end extreme inequality.
