Kanayo F. Nwanze
Kanayo F. Nwanze is President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). A Nigerian national, Nwanze has over 35 years of experience across three continents, focussing on poverty reduction through agriculture, rural development and research. He was Director-General of the Africa Rice Center where he was instrumental in introducing and promoting New Rice for Africa, a high-yield, drought- and pest-resistant rice variety developed specifically for the African landscape. In addition, Nwanze has held senior positions at research centers affiliated with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) in Africa and Asia. Nwanze holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Ibadan (Nigeria), a Doctorate in Agricultural Entomology from Kansas State University (United States), and a Doctor of Science, honoris causa, from McGill University (Canada).
